Artist Statement

“Painting for me is a primarily a means of self-expression as well as an outlet for my creative energy. I use saturated colour to evoke emotion, as well as for its aesthetic and compositional qualities. I often derive my inspiration from the forms found in nature, however; political and sociological issues are occasionally an area of interest. Whether it is with more representational pieces or those verging on the abstract, I like the use of repeated pattern, strong colour and to work in series. One painting tends to inspire another.”

“Influences on my work include Post-Impressionism, Fauvism, Pop Art and Abstract Expressionism; especially with regard to colour. I am also influenced by contemporary culture and can be easily inspired by a piece of fabric, blown glass, literature or typography.”
